All your burning questions, answered.
WHY THE UNPOSED APPROACH ANYWAY?
This style of photos (sometimes called "documentary" are the best representation of your life at this moment. The photos might remind you of the ones your grandmother used to take when you were younger (but with more attention to detail and aesthetics) because no one was ever performing for the camera-- everything you see in these images is real life. The last thing you want to do is add stress to your already busy life. So why bother with the unnecessary awkward posing when you could stay true to yourself? In the end, a photo session with me will produce tangible images that will flood you with memories and emotions from that moment, every time you look at them.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR/DO/PLAN?
The best part about my style is that you don't need to do anything out of the ordinary! I know, it's weird. But seriously. Don't make your kids wear their Sunday best. Don't tell your kids to "stop moving around so the photographer can take a good picture of you!" All you need to do is let me in your home and let me take care of the magic. It'll be the most relaxing photo session you've ever experienced.
BUT OUR HOUSE IS SO MESSY / MY LIFE IS SO BORING.
First off, mine is probably messier. If your house is normally cluttered, leave it be. Remember that these photographs represent you! There is no need to alter the reality of the now. Real>Perfect. Right? So go ahead and cancel that professional cleaning job (unless you were already wanting an excuse for one anyway).
And your life is not boring! The little things we do and the minuscule moments matter so much. As mundane as you think your life is, you'd be surprised at how much I can work with to tell your family's story without you having to come up with some elaborate plan. Just do your regular thing and I'll come along. It might be getting the kids dressed, fighting them to do chores, or maybe going to a favorite ice cream place. Or maybe you're on vacation and don't want another blown out selfie to prove were, in fact, enjoying your time. As long as your entire family isn't plopped in front of a screen for the majority of your session, I guarantee you that even your most "meh" moments can reveal themselves as something beautiful once you see it in a photograph. Just trust me on this.
SO YOU'RE GOING TO BE FOLLOWING US AROUND... AFTER MY NAP AM I GONNA WAKE UP TO YOUR CAMERA IN MY FACE?
Yup! Okay, well, maybe. It's up to you. I do appreciate you letting me in your home since it is such a personal and intimate setting. I don't take that lightly. And yes, I will be aiming to get the best shots which mean I will go to several rooms, I might stand up on furniture (with your permission), and I might catch you taking a cat nap or bringing your child to the bathroom. All that everyday goodness. But I understand you may want privacy during certain parts of our session, so I ask that my clients have an open door policy. If the door is open, I'm allowed to go in that space. If you shut it, it means you'd like me to stay out. Sound okay?
CAN I JUST OPT OUT OF THE PRINT VOUCHER?
I get it. You want to save money by not printing your pictures. But your photographs are meant to be tangible memories, which is why I strongly encourage families to get these moments printed onto paper using a professional print lab (hence the print voucher). When you hang these works of art, you are making the statement that you're proud to show off your family in its purest light. These are the images you will eventually pass down to your children and your children's children. This sadly does not happen when you have a box full of USB drives.
When your family is looking through old photographs of your ancestors, are you altogether around a laptop or are you gathered around an album?
